Official Inauguration

The Dame Hilda Lloyd Network is now officially launched. We were lucky to have support from a number of high profile individuals highlighting the important work this network is conducting to help drive forward the Women's Health agenda.

Professor Shakila Thangaratinam, founder of the DHL Network, welcomed everyone to the event and provided everyone with some background on the aims and outputs of the network in improving Women’s Health in the region. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Maureen Cornish, was present to cut the ribbon. Councillor Mariam Khan gave a powerful speech and highlighted the work we could all do together to improve Women's Health in Birmingham. Professor David Adams, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, also shared a few words. Unfortunately, Preet Gill MP was unable to attend and instead shared a video message which can be viewed further down this page.

The event itself was full of brilliant presentations. Professor Mark Kilby, who currently holds the Dame Hilda Lloyd Chair of Fetal Medicine, gave a fascinating insight into Dame Hilda herself and really showed what an inspiring lady she was. To show the breadth of the network we were really happy to have Professor Sara Poonasamy from the University of Warwick to share his research updates and the regional and global potential of the network. And finally, we heard from our DHL tier leads who updated on everything the network has been doing and future steps.

Overall a brilliant day for connections and partnerships. We are excited to see what unfolds over the next 12 months.
