We are aiming to recruit medical students with an interest in academic research as part of our PregCoV-19 LSR team, who have been working on a living systematic review on COVID-19 in pregnancy.
Under the WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Women’s Health, the PregCoV-19 LSR is a project that is focused on research questions related to pregnant and postnatal women with COVID-19. With such a rapid turnover of publications in the field, we are continuously looking to incorporate new evidence and provide updates on emerging findings in the literature.
For further details on the review, please check out our website here: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/.../who.../pregcov/index.aspx
This is our third recruitment of students to join the project to replace fifth-year students who will be graduating this year.
We are preferably looking for current medical students (Years 1-4) or upcoming intercalating medical students who are:
Passionate about women’s and babies’ health evidenced through previous experience
Previous research experience with systematic reviews
Highly motivated to learn new research skills
Long-term commitment toward the project
We would like to emphasise that successful applicants will need to dedicate a considerable amount of time due to the nature of our living systematic review. As a guide, our current students spend approximately 1-2 hours per day on the project. This work is spread out across the week and not daily. Therefore, a one-year commitment is required at a minimum.
Students who are enrolled will learn how to carry out various aspects of our living systematic review. Depending on their contribution, they will be considered for co-authorship on future publications according to the ICMJE criteria and may have further opportunities to present at conferences, etc. The team currently has several publications in the BMJ and students have presented at national and international conferences.
